God Is Over Governments

Daniel 2:21: And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:

Daniel 4:17b: . . . the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.

Proverbs 21:1: The king*s heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.

God created us. Governments did not.
God gave us life. Governments did not.
God gave us lungs and air to breathe. Governments did not.
God gave us fingers and toes. Governments did not.
God gave us digestive systems. Governments did not.
God gave us a planet to live on. Governments did not.
God always loves us. Governments do not.
God can take us to Heaven. Governments cannot.
God wants to take us to Heaven. Most governments are unconcerned about that.
So which is more important to us, God or government?

In the history of mankind, the most significant issue is whether men will trust God or something else. The other things are idols. Satan offered himself as the first idol and ever since he has been offering men things to trust in other than God. As individuals, we must choose to be under God or under something else. Governments are people. Governments have on rare occasions consisted of individuals that want to be under God. America was like that for a time.

Whether men like it or not, the simple truth is that God is above governments. He establishes them and He removes them. He does that for His purposes.

Governments are never truly out from under God. When governments are willingly under God they are blessed and a blessing.

Psalms 33:12: Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.

When governments are not willingly under God, they are not blessed and they are not a blessing.

Proverbs 29:2: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.

When people want government to be above God or instead of God, government is their idol.
